Parking

We provide a parking permit for one car (please return to C & C when you leave!) This can be used at Batson Creek in summer and Shadycombe in winter . It can also be used in many other South Hams car parks and for the Dartmouth Park and Ride. There is often free parking available further up Allenhayes and Devon Road.

Wi-fi

Both sitting rooms have login details for the Wi-Fi which are printed on A4 laminated sheets. We have recently upgraded the wi-fi to BT Infinity 1 which should have minimum download speeds of 50Mb.

TV

Manuals for the TVs (and nearly everything else!) are in the folder in the front sitting room. The two main HDTVs downstairs can get Freeview digital TV. Press APPS on the Panasonic and the coloured button by GUIDE on the Samsung for BBC iPlayer, Netflix and BT Sport etc. Remember to log out of any personal accounts when you leave. A guide to doing this from the Panasonic is here. There are also lots of DVDs to watch.

Heating

The heating and hot water are set to come on twice a day in winter. In the summer the hot water comes on twice. If you are staying in winter and want more warmth, please set the controls on the boiler to “once” (and back to timed when you leave). The hall thermostat is set to 15 so turn as needed to increase the temperature (no need to press SET). On departure please press the SET button once. The downstairs shower room has underfloor heating, which is left on in winter.

The Kitchen

Full instructions for all the kitchen appliances are in an orange folder in the 3rd drawer, right of the oven. There is also a quick guide laminated sheet in the same place. The ECO setting on the dishwasher might help to save the planet, but sadly it doesn’t get the dishes clean! When you go out, please close the Velux windows in the kitchen. The rain is great for the garden but not so good for the floor……..

Take aways

Salaamnamaste in Kingsbridge will deliver to Salcombe and is consistently good. Pizza Planet also deliver and there is a fish and chip stall next to The Plaice on Fore Street, open most evenings. The Salcombe Deli has lots of prepared goodies to cook at home, including pizzas. Find them opposite the Ferry Steps.

Food Shopping

For online grocery shopping before you arrive, Waitrose, Tesco and Sainsbury’s all deliver to Salcombe (our postcode is TQ8 8HU). Kingsbridge has Tesco and Morrisons. On Fore Street in Salcombe we are blessed with a good butcher, a fantastic bakery and creperie and the famous Cranch’s Pantry, where you can find just about everything you need – even things you can’t find at Tesco! There is a Spar in Loring Road, which also houses the Post Office.

Rubbish

There are two bins in the kitchen with bags provided. When full these should go in a green trade waste sack (2/3 per sack). Tied green sacks then go in the black seagull-proof sack in the cupboard under the stairs to B Flat. Rubbish is collected on Monday mornings by 10 am. Glass, paper and cartons can be recycled at Batson Creek car park. Please note that glass cannot be put in the green trade waste sacks.

Baby Equipment

We provide a travel cot and a high chair which are kept in the walk-in wardrobe of the smaller double bedroom. It would be very kind if you would leave them in the same condition that you would be happy for your baby to use. There is also a variety of plastic tableware and cutlery and a liquidiser is available.

Medical

South Hams Hospital, Kingsbridge, TQ7 1AT has a minor injuries unit, open 9 – 5, seven days a week. Derriford Hospital in Plymouth (PL6 8DH) is the nearest hospital with Accident and Emergency facilities. There is a dental practice  just next to Coast and Country’s offices and the nearest dispensing chemist is Boots in Fore Street.

The Garden

Most gardens in Salcombe are on a slope. Ours is no exception! Do take care on the slope and the steps and pay particular attention to any young children. A garden umbrella is in the cupboard under the stairs. We would be grateful if you would put it back after use. Please put the cover back on the rotary dryer when you’ve finished with it. There is a garden table and seating for 8 and two very comfy loungers. If you use the barbecue, please don’t leave it for the next guests to clean.

Cleaning

Coast and Country have provided you with details of what to do at the end of your stay. Our  cleaner Eileen has a very short time frame to prepare the house for our next guests, so we would be really grateful if you could follow their guide. If you are staying for more than a week, you will be lucky enough to meet Eileen, who will come and change the sheets and dust and hoover on Friday at 10am. If you have any major spillages on furniture or carpets, please contact C & C.
